The Grace of the Rough Draft

For years, I carried my story silently. It was a heavy, complicated weight made of impossible choices, heartbreak, and pure, gritty survival. But lately, I have been actively putting that weight down onto the page.

This weekend, I hit a massive milestone. I am currently 49 chapters in on my autobiography - some chapters short and some long.
The title: The Grace of Falling Apart.

I haven't completely finished the manuscript yet—there is still formatting to wrestle with and final thoughts to weave together—but I am closer than I have ever been. Writing a memoir is not for the faint of heart. It requires you to walk back into the darkest rooms of your past and sit with the versions of yourself who were just trying to survive the day. But seeing all those years written into a manuscript has been so healing. I am no longer just a survivor of my story; I am the author of it.

If you are in a season of life right now where you feel like everything is breaking, I want you to know that the storm does eventually run out of rain. My days used to be defined by hospital alarms, poverty, and sheer panic. This weekend? It was defined by visiting family, eating wings, and settling in at home with my dogs and cats. Peace is possible.

You don't have to have it all perfectly together right now. Sometimes, you just have to find the grace to survive the falling apart until you reach the chapter where you finally get to rest.
