Internal & External Storms

The world outside and the world inside me both decided to shift dramatically this week.

We had our first snow—a sudden, beautiful, and very cold reminder that winter is rushing in. The weather dropped more than ten degrees overnight! Dealing with that kind of rapid change is always a physical challenge, especially when there’s illness circulating in the community. Thankfully, we are expecting a reprieve tomorrow, with temperatures heading back up into the 50s, or so they say.

But for me, the most significant shift happened internally. I spent four hours undergoing a gastric emptying study this week, and I have a new diagnosis: gastroparesis.

Layering this on top of managing brittle Type 1 Diabetes adds a new level of complexity to daily life. It is frustrating when your body tells you to slow down, especially when your plate is already full with work, family, and hoping to grow my photo and craft business.

Right now, my biggest prayer is for clarity. I am focused on finding a diet and medication plan that can bring some stability and relief. If you could send a little prayer and strength and peace my way as I navigate this new path, I would be so grateful.

Just like dealing with the unexpected snow or the sudden cold, managing a chronic illness is about controlling your response. It’s about choosing grace and finding the right tools—be it medication, diet, or the simple comfort of prayer—to weather the storm.

I remain committed to finding the beauty and the focus in every circumstance. We all have our battles, both visible and invisible.

Even amidst the internal storms, there are incredible blessings reminding me of where to find my joy. I was so excited to pre-register for the Women of Joy conference in Pigeon Forge next April, and after posting about it, our group has grown! We now have a total of seven ladies from church planning to go. This growing fellowship is a bright light and a powerful reminder that there is always growth and connection to look forward to, even when life feels turbulent.
