Marriage News, Anniversary Dates, and the Joy of a Full Weekend
My weekend was coming to an end when I saw the news that my daughter had gotten married Saturday!
It was a quiet shock. While I admit there was a tiny sting that I only found out after the fact, that feeling was quickly overwhelmed by genuine joy. She is happy, she made a choice that is right for her, and that's all a mother can truly ask for. I only had one thing to say- "Congratulations." That's the grace you offer when you love someone fiercely, even when your own expectations are missed.
Speaking of big life events, Friday was my husband Charlie's and my second wedding anniversary!
We opted for a low-key, fun date night and headed to Dave and Busters. The arcade games were a blast, but the food was a bit of a letdown compared to our last visit, and we definitely spent more than planned! Despite that, it was perfect because we were together.
We ended the night at home, curled up to watch the "For the One" concert movie featuring Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham. Those two artists are such a source of spiritual energy for me right now. It was the perfect way to bring the noise of the arcade date back down to a peaceful, connected close.
The rest of the weekend was a lovely blend of family, faith, and forward movement:
*Five Candles: On Saturday, I got to celebrate my great-nephew's 5th birthday. Getting to see my niece and her three boys is always a whirlwind of fun and a great reminder of the chaos and joy of young family life.
*Fellowship & Focus: Sunday was centered around our church. The morning service was a wonderful time of fellowship and spiritual reset. The most exciting part? I was able to make the first payment on my professional camera! I'm buying it from my best friend, and I am already buzzing with ideas for how to use it. Knowing I may not have my vision forever makes this new hobby—and the ability to serve the church photography ministry—feel incredibly meaningful right now.
* Youth & Life: Though Charlie wasn't feeling well enough for the evening, Brad and I headed back for Life Groups at church. It was a great time for both of us to connect to our peers, and I'm so glad Brad had a wonderful time and shared that he wants to go back for every youth get together.
This week is fall break for the district, and I'm so grateful my mom is stepping in to keep Brad while we work. It allows us to keep pushing forward, even when I'm not feeling 100%.
It was a weekend of highs—a new marriage, two years of my own marriage, family time, and a brand new camera. Even when I'm running on fumes, I'm doing my best to show up for the people I love and the passions that light me up.
