November is More Than Just Awareness, It's My Reality.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and while I often focus on beautiful things and forward movement here, I need to talk about one of my biggest constant challenges: living as a brittle Type 1 Diabetic.

If you're not familiar with the term, "brittle" simply means my blood sugar levels swing dramatically and often without warning—I can go from dangerously high to dangerously low in the blink of an eye. This isn't just an inconvenience; it means my body is in a constant state of chemical turbulence. It requires relentless monitoring, corrections, and absolute focus just to stay level.

You know that feeling of walking into a strong headwind? That's what every day feels like when managing a brittle T1D. It affects my energy (like when I had to leave work early), my mood, and my ability to think clearly. It requires the same kind of discipline and grace I use in every other area of my life.

This month, I'm asking for something simple: empathy over advice.

Please understand the invisible work required to manage a chronic illness. Instead of asking about "cures" or suggesting diets, try offering patience and support.

I choose to show up every day—but it’s a constant battle. If you know someone battling T1D, please take a moment to acknowledge their strength.

I’m holding onto the peace that is not a luxury, but a necessity.

*Question for You:*
If you live with a chronic illness, what is the one thing you wish others understood about your daily effort?
